Blazing Saddles 1974 93 R 3.5 out of 5 ducks
Set in the Old West, with a black work crew building a railroad line. It should be noted that this little ditty is a parody of Westerns and racial stereotypes and a town where almost everyone's last name is Johnson. Lamarr finds a way to get the people out of Rock Ridge, so when the railroad passes through, he can buy the land for cheap. The governor sends in a new (black) sheriff to replace the now dead sheriff. Despite the governor and Lamarr's plan that the black sheriff will offend the town, he pairs up with Waco Kid and they garner the support of the townspeople. Slowly, people take a liking to the new sheriff. Which isn't good for Lamarr's plan, so he raises an army of misfits, wanted criminals, and other desirable characters. The townspeople eventually go to battle with Lamarr's army, just as the camera pans out and to a nearby sound stage, where they're taping a musical. Just as they begin taping, the battle from Rock Ridge crashes through the wall, then into the studio commissary. Lamarr catches a cab, and ends up at the Chinese Theatre for a show-down with the sheriff. The sheriff shoots Lamarr, and he and the Waco Kid go watch the end of the movie shown in the theatre, where they see themselves ride off into the sunset after getting into a Cadillac.
