Vertigo 1958 98 App. 4.5 out of 5 ducks
Your usual, Hitchcock masterpiece. And sure to confuse some in its ending.

Ferguson retires after developing a fear of heights, after a co-worker fell to his death (while trying to save Ferguson) during a chase. (Ferguson and the co-worker are both San Francisco police detectives, by the way). A buddy of Ferguson hires him to watch his wife, Madeleine, because hubby wants to know why is wife is obsessed with a dead woman named Carlotta, and keeps trying to kill herself to rid the Carlotta demon from within her. Fergy falls in love with Madeleine in a cute 1950s sort of way, but on a trip to Mission San Juan Bautista, she falls to her death from a tower. (Fergy tried to save her, but his vertigo prevented him from climbing the stairs to rescue her from Fate.) We find the woman who fell is actually Judy, someone the husband hired to fool Fergy into thinking Madeline was suicidal... then hubby was going to kill her. Fergy overcomes his fear of heights, but in the end, both Judy and Madeleine are both dead.
