Dr. Redding leads a bunch of third year medical students who have to leave the classroom behind as they begin working at the hospital, on real patients with real problems. (Students Michael, Gina, Kenny, Suzanne, Bobby, and one or two others.) Some do better than others, Gina loses a young boy during a transfusion, there's random hot lovin' scenes, but they're all trying to get the internship. Michael's patient, Henrietta, is in distress post-op, but the attending Dr. Valentine didn't do anything; Michael administers her meds that save her, but he's suspended for breaking protocol of following orders. (Valentine and Michael are having a personal thing that led to Valentine not listening to Michael.) Kenny tells Dr. Redding of this, and that impacts the suspension decision. A tanker explosion on the freeway brings 20 burn victims into the hospital, and has Redding put Michael back into scrubs. Kenny gets the internship and his transfer request to Chicago is granted, Michael gets to study under Dr. Redding and a chance at next year's internship. Suzanne is going away to Denver to study, and Kenny's wife comes back to live with him. |
