Daniel defeat John's guys (the Cobra Kais) at the tournament, and Miyagi humiliates sensei John after the match (John was bullying his students). The students all leave, and John has to close the dojo, and goes to pal Terry, to tell him he's quitting. Terry sends John on a vacation, but Terry vows to avenge John's misfortune by beating Daniel and Miyagi. John hits the airport to leave as Daniel and Miyagi arrive home from Karate Kid II's trip to Japan. (Daniel's mom it out of town for a while.) He enrolls in college, but Kumiko stayed in Tokyo. Daniel meets neighbor Jessica, cute and perky. Daniel is threatened into fighting in the tournament he won last year. Terry plans to recruit evil fighter Mike to fight Daniel, then pretends to be John's pal, extending John's apologizes for his poor behavior. Miyagi doesn't want to train him again, so Daniel accepts when Terry offers to train him. The training is rough, and leaves Daniel being nagged often by Mike. The training causes a strain on Daniel and Miyagi's friendship. Daniel opts to drop out of the tournament, tells Terry he's quitting, and Terry threatens him onto the mat. .. and John isn't dead after all. Miyagi drops by, beats up the mean guys, and begins training Daniel again. Daniel and Mike face off on the mat, and Daniel wins with a chop to Mike's kidneys or something; Daniel and Miyagi hug.
