A road trip that's undertaken while under the influence of a wide variety of drugs, some alcohol, and other sundry mind-altering substances while driving around in their Red Shark. We have Raoul, Dr. Gonzo (Raoul's lawyer), and a hitchhiker. They arrive in Vegas, so Raoul can cover a motorcycle race for a magazine, and things get more and more hazy as things progress. Between the odd lighting, crooked camera angles, hiring hotel maids to work for them, and incoherent dialogue, you really begin to feel like you're on a bad drug trip right along with the cast. We swap the Red Shark for a white Cadillac, the White Whale. There's a fondness for telegrams. Raoul walks around with a large tape recorder strapped to his body for a good chunk of the film. Raoul takes Dr. Gonzo to the airport after running ram shod over virtually every group of people in Vegas, and drives away, with a big American flag hooked to the back of the White Whale. |
