Ending
Tepper is walking home and finds a wallet in the street. He calls the owner to return it, but can't find a number, so he leaves a message on Victor's answering machine for the owner, Avery (leaving his name, number and home address). He then goes through the wallet more and finds a lottery inside that has the winning numbers for the $6 million prize. That night is Tepper's weekly poker game with his pals Fish, Bo, and Quigley. One of their poker betting rituals is to bet their lottery tickets. Avery shows up, gets his wallet, and comes in to use the phone, but some police activity in the building leads to Avery being delayed, so they cut him into the poker game. As they play, it's clear Tepper knows the winning ticket is in the pool, and Avery seems to know, too. Tepper is keen on winning, and marks his cards with his blood (he cut himself earlier in the night). Tepper wins, but folds and pretends he doesn't have anything in his hand. They give the tickets to Tepper, he calls for the numbers and tells them there are no winners. The cops tell them they can leave (they caught their crook); Bo goes home. Quigley whacks Avery in the head with a bottle, having figured out Avery's ticket is a winner (since the numbers are his granddaughter's birthday, which he's been playing for years). Quigley confronts Tepper about him cheating, and Tepper says Avery should keep it all. The cops show up for the 911 call (when Avery was hurt), and Tepper asks the cop to ensure Avery gets home safe with the ticket. The cop declines, but takes the ticket to turn in as lost property. Fish and Quigley leave, and Tepper gives Avery the real winning ticket. Tepper calls girlfriend Carla to apologize for their earlier fight and to propose. A knock at the door is the real Avery, asking for his wallet, and the smile fade from Tepper's face. Moving film reel
