Flight of the Intruder 1991 115 PG-13 2.0 out of 5 ducks
Jake "Cool Hand" flies bombing missions during the Vietnam war, but begins to question things once McPherson, his co-pilot, is killed by a lone gunman in a field. They're both a bit frustrated with the "useless" missions, where the seem to be doing little more than bombing clumps of trees. When Boxman and his co-pilot are shot down, it just gets worse. Jake gets a new co-pilot, "Tiger", and together, they decide to engage in an unauthorized mission as a means of venting the frustration at the rules of engagement during the war. (Tiger is on his third tour, and in his own words, "likes to fight;" needless to say, he's a big rough jaded about things these days.) They face court-martial. Jake makes a little speech along the lines of dying for something and dying for nothing, and knowing the difference, but all charges go away, because President Nixon just decided to bomb all valid military targets, so a court martial in the face of that order is silly. Commander "Dooke" is shot down, Jake and Tiger go out (despite being grounded) and eject after their fighter is hit. Tiger's hit, and gets the bomber crew to blow up his location (he's surrounded by the enemy). Dooke and Jake are rescued. Moving film reel
