Uptown Girls 2003 92 PG-13 2.0 out of 5 ducks
Molly is the daughter of dead rock singer guy (he had one hit and his planed crashed with mom, too). Her accountant guy, Bob, flees with $100 million, so she has to get a job, as a nanny for a friend's boss' daughter. Ray is the 8-year-old who acts 30 and dull, as Molly acts, well, 8. Ray's mom is a record executive, and her dad is in a coma. Molly has a thing the musician guy, but he can't stand her being so immature. Molly learns to be a grown-up from Ray, Ray learns how to be more of a kid, yada, yada, yada. Molly gets Ray to talk her her vegetable dad before it's too late, and golly, he dies soon after. Ray's mom calls Molly looking for Ray, despite Molly having been fired that very day; Ray went to school and never came home. Molly goes and finds Ray at the Coney Island tea cup ride, just spinning and trying to cope with having an emotion (grief). We close with Ray doing a ballet recital in the tutu Molly made for her, and singer guy sings dad's one hit with dad's guitar that he anonymously bought at an auction held by Molly. (All the little ballet girls dance with the other guitars; he bought them all.) Never mind the bit at the end where you see him on stage clapping, but he's still singing. Moving film reel
