Ending
Abby has been an artist since her youth, when she also created imaginary, ideal boyfriend Sy. Fast-forward to adulthood, and Abby's closest male relationship continues to be Sy, which gets weird when fellow student Quinn needs tutoring in art. Abby is encouraged to tutor him by her best friend Jessica, because Quinn is her cousin, and he also offered to help her get her job back at Borders (where she had previously dated her boss). Quinn gets her job back by posig as a corporate representative who's aware of the relationship, and how bad it could make the company look. Abby starts tutoring Quinn, but she's resisting the fact he seems really keen on her, though he's not as ideal as Sy. Sy, whom she has conversations with and we can see (though he doesn't leave a trace when they make snow angels), is jealous. Quinn doesn't realize Sy is imaginary, and he eventually feels he's unable to win her away from Sy. Eventually, Abby and Sy part ways, on more or less friendly terms (Sy tells her it's time for him to go), and she meets up with Quinn, who knows Sy isn't real after Abby's mom let it slip during Thanksgiving dinner. Abby and Quinn start dating, the Borders manager's rearranging (a joke comment from Quinn) of the store get him likely promoted to regional manager, leaving a job open for Jessica to promote to manager of the bookstore.
