Ending
British investment broker Max inherits a vineyard in Province, France, from his dead uncle Henry (who died without a will, so it goes to the nearest living relative). Sprinkled with flashbacks to Max as a boy, who grew up as an orphan living with his uncle throughout his youth. In Province, Max bumps into Fannie (first by running her off the road as he made a phone call on his mobile phone), annoys vintner Duflot (who has been tending grapes there for 20+ years) with his plans to sell, and plans interrupted with Henry's illegitimate daughter Christy showing up from Napa, California. As Max cools his heels at the vineyard (he got a week's suspension from stock brokering after a risky trade that got their firm a slap on the hand), Max comes to terms with Christy not being there to steal the place from him (she's a nearer relative and would get it under French laws, it seems). Max gets the hookup and hot lovin' from Fanny, who fears letting any man get close to her (she gives in only as he's going to sell and leave town for good). Max sells the place, though we soon see him writing a letter to Christy, pretending it's from Henry; in it, "Henry" tells Max about Christy, and she's to inherit the place; the realtor breaks the news to the new buyers that the sale is void (implied, not actually spoken). Max is offered a partnership at the brokerage at the end of his suspension, but he turns it down, opting instead to live the live he wants, and not staying in the life he has. We close with harvesting of the grapes, Christy and Duflot arguing about wine-making, and Fanny and Henry having lunch and kissing. (We also see Fanny and Max met and shared an innocent kiss as kids, and that the vineyard report proclaiming the place ruined was faked, a failed ploy to get Max to abandon his plans to sell the place.)
