A dramatic documentary, of course (based in reported facts, but those shown were actors). The changing of the guard when Tony Blair is elected as Prime Minister, replacing Margaret Thatcher. Blair meets Queen Elizabeth II as part of taking political control, and it's a meshing of cultures: Blair's promise to get things shaken up in the government, and the Queen's fierce devotion to tradition. It shows their relationship, that of the Queen's with Prince Charles, Diana, Diana's death in France in 1997, the funeral, the private and public mourning, the works. In the end, Blair meets with the Queen, who was not overly pleased with all of Blair's acts and statements during the Diana funeral events, but as the stateswoman she is, she seems to set them aside, asks Blair to walk with her, and discuss matters of interest to her and the people of England. |
