Wordplay 2006 84 PG 2.5 out of 5 ducks
A documentary focusing on crossword puzzles, the man behind one of the most looked-at puzzle in the New York Times, as well as an annual competition of solvers. Will Shortz is the current New York Times editor of the puzzle, who himself has a degree in puzzles (having attended a college wherein you can create your own major by writing a valid curriculum of study). We look back a bit at the history of puzzles, dating back to 1913 (in one man's summation), and the standards of game creation, meeting some folks who make and submit puzzles to the Times (and other papers) for use. We end out at the annual competition, where solvers from all over compete for the number one slot. The final match comes down to Al, Trip and Tyler (who's just 20 and been doing it for years already). Al finishes first, but has two missing letters, taking him to third place. Trip comes in second, and Tyler becomes the winner, beating Trip's previous record of being the youngest winner of the competition a few years back, when he was 24. Moving film reel
