Orlando 1992 93 PG-13 2.5 out of 5 ducks
Orlando is based on a Virginia Woolf novel, centering around the character, Orlando (duh). Early on, he is a poet in 1600, where the queen awards him a stately manor, and advises he not get old. Taking this to heart, we watch as Orlando lives through four centuries. After falling into a coma in the mid-1700s, Orlando falls into the coma as a guy, and wakes up as a girl, a gender-changing event, his (now her) coma. The story weaves through his love of a Russian woman (while he was still a guy), and then with a guy (while a girl), and throughout being obsessed with poetry that finally is handed over to a publisher in the 20th century. (The publisher asks how long she's been working on it, no answer.) She goes out to play with her daughter, and rests below a tall tree while her daughter runs around in a field of flowers with a camcorder. (The scene is much how the film began nearly 400 years earlier, minus the daughter and camcorder.) Moving film reel
