1588. King Phillip of Spain primary goal is to dethrone Queen Elizabeth and return the now Protestant England to its previous Catholic state. He sends Englishman, Reston, back to his native land to plot against the queen. Meanwhile, Elizabeth meets adventurer/pirate Walter Raleigh and becomes enamored. Meanwhile, imprisoned queen Mary Stuart, wife of Phillip, is plotting the assassination of her half-sister, Elizabeth. One such failed plot forces Elizabeth to order the execution of Mary. Phillip planned it all so that with Mary's death, he declared holy war on Elizabeth and sent his armada against England. Walter Raleigh is knighted and winds up sleeping with one of the queen's ladies-in-waiting, Bess. She gets knocked up, the two marry, the queen then imprisons Raleigh and banishes the girl. As the Spanish fleet draws near, the queen releases Raleigh and he and Francis Drake defeat the armada. When Raleigh and Bess have their son, Elizabeth visits and blesses the child. Moving film reel
