The Exorcism of Emily Rose 2005 106 PG-13 3.0 out of 5 ducks
Lawyer Erin is asked by her senior partner to take the defense of Father Moore, a priest accused of negligent homicide in the death of Emily, after he tried to do an exorcism on her. We open with Emily already having died, and see the events leading up to her death through flashback and testimony from the witness box in court. (In a nutshell, Emily is possessed at 3am as she's away at college; 3am as the demon's hour, the opposite of 3pm, the miracle hour when Jesus died on the cross. Moore tries to help Emily, the exorcism fails, and Emily writes a letter to Moore where the Virgin Mary offered her a chance to leave the pain behind now, or stay to ensure the pain and be one for others to look to and believe; Emily chose to stay and help others, and she died the next day). In the end, the medical science versus demonic arguments in court are a wash; the jury finds Moore guilty in Emily's death. Moore asked for immediate sentencing, the jury forewoman suggests Moore is sentenced to time served and released; the judge agrees. Erin is offered the full partnership in the law firm (the deal with her taking the case); but she turns it down. Moving film reel
