The Exorcist 1973 122 PG-13 4.0 out of 5 ducks
Chris McNeal notices her 12-year-old daughter, Regan, is acting a bit funny these days... seems she's a bit demonic. Yup, she's possessed by none other than the Dark Prince himself, giving her an ugly appearance, great strength, and can levitate stuff. Chris calls in the Catholic priests (back in the day, yo) after the medical doctors couldn't figure it out. Between two priests, one experienced in exorcisms (Father Merrin), and the other psychiatry (Father Dyer), and for good measure, throw in Father Karras, who's having doubts of faith with his mom being terminally ill. Father Merrin does the whole cross-holly water routine, but the devil in Regan ends up killing him in the process. Father Karras comes in and tries to save Merrin, but he's dead. Karras begins choking the devil within Regan, demanding the devil "take me instead." We see the devil transfer from Regan to Karras, who then has the internal struggle with the devil within; rather than risk the devil leaving his body, Karras jumps out a window to his death. Father Dyer comes along and hears Karras' confession before he dies. The next morning, the police lieutenant and Father Dyer go to lunch, and little girl Regan is back to normal and doesn't seem to remember much of anything. Moving film reel
