Standard Operating Procedure 2008 118 R 3.5 out of 5 ducks
A documentary looking at the events of the abuse and torture of suspected terrorists at the hands of U.S. forces at the Abu Ghraib prison, and the infamous photos that made prosecution of the lower-ranking personnel possible. In a series of interviews, we meet most of the military folks whose names grabbed headlines (minus Charles Graner, who is still in military prison). The film doesn't lead one to draw any firm conclusions, so you're left to decide for yourself if they were really rogue soldiers acting like college kids at spring break -- with camera to capture it all on film -- or if they were following orders and became the scapegoats (the latter of which seem to be the soldiers' stories). Graner taking the time to burn CDs of photos for other soldiers, on request, many of which were destroyed during a superior's amnesty period of destroying unauthorized photos and materials. In end notes, we're told no one over the rank of Staff Sergeant was held to answer for the abuses that took place. Lynndie England gave birth to Charles' son after getting pregnant whilst on their tour of duty at the prison, though while in prison, Charles married Megan Ambuhl, another defendant in the case.
