Savage Grace 2008 96 NR 2.0 out of 5 ducks
Based on a true story. Barbara Daly marries above her class to Brooks Baekerland, heir to the Bakelite plastics fortune. They have a son, Antony, whom Barbara dotes on, but dad sees him as a disappointment and failure. As Antony -- Tony -- grows up, mom is still super involved in her son's life, so his first girlfriend Blanca is invited along with the family on holiday. She leaps into bed with him, but not much seems to happen, and before long dad has left Barbara for Blanca; Barbara is outraged, but Antony doesn't seem to mind. (As the film evolves, it's apparent Antony's gay.) Antony sleeps with her mom's gay pal Carlos (who hangs around with the socialite women to escort them to the opera and such when their husbands aren't interested); then mom ends up sleeping with Carlos. Antony sees this and joins them, and ends up in a kissy-feely threesome with mother, son, and Carlos. Antony seems to be getting more obsessive with minutia, like the collar of the dead dog, and searches the entire house to find it hidden in a cupboard. He confronts Barbara, who claims ignorance, and during the argument it appears he's having delusions of notes written "backwards" (not Barbara's writing style but Antony's), and he stabs her with a knife, seemingly by accident; after ordering and eating Chinese food, police arrive at the London flat and takes him into custody. In end notes, we learn he was convicted of manslaughter in the 1972 killing (diminished capacity), and released in 1980. He goes to New York and lives with Barbara's mom Nini. A week or so later, he stabs her with a knife during an argument in the kitchen. He's taken into custody and kills himself (bag over the head). Moving film reel
