The Express 2008 130 PG 3.0 out of 5 ducks
Biographical film of Ernie Davis, a gifted African-American football player, and his coach, Syracuse University's Ben Schwartzwalder. Schwartzwalder recruits Davis with the help of All-American running back, Jim Brown. As the civil rights movement is gaining steam; Davis experiences prejudice on campus, in town, and on the field, sometimes from teammates, but manages to ride above it all, going so far as to challenge Schwartzwalder to stand up for his players, regardless of their race. Davis helps leads the team to a national championship, and Davis is named Most Valuable Player. The awards ceremony is held at a white-only country club, so in a show of unity, the entire team and their coach boycotted the ceremony. Davis is later awarded the Heismann Trophy in 1961, becoming the first African-American to be named a recipient of the award. Moving film reel
