Secretariat 2010 116 PG 2.5 out of 5 ducks
A long-shot, feel-good tale of a horse (no pun intended) named Secretariat, owned by housewife Penny and her husband Jack, and managed by Lucien (sort of a long-shot of a manager, as managers go). Few believe in Penny, Lucien and the horse, but she's certain they'll win the Triple Crown -- three horse races some five weeks apart -- and is literally willing to bet the farm and the family's finances on her beliefs. Lo and behold, the horse wins, taking the final race by an impressive 31 lengths ahead of the next nearest horse, to much celebration. In end notes, we're told no other horse has come close to beating Secretariat's time or that distance in the Belmont race, and he's considered to be the greatest race horses of all time. Lucien retired from managing and quit golfing as well. Penny went home and kept running her dad's farm, and jockey Ron was later injured in a fall from a horse and was paralyzed. Moving film reel
