The Road 2009 119 R 3.5 out of 5 ducks
Ending
The world is devastated after an apocalyptic event. A father -- Man -- and his son -- Boy -- are walking south in an attempt to escape the increasingly cold, endless winter. In flashback we see Woman and Man seeing the end coming, Woman dies some time by suicide; the two carry a gun with two bullets, should they not be able to outrun certain death all around them. The road is more or less the path they're taking to an anticipated better place. The world is full of gangs of lawless killers, cannibals and bad folks, along with a few other refugees just trying to survive. The Man insists they are still the good ones, and carry a fire within themselves. They share their food and a meal with an old man at one point, but despite Boy's request, they don't take him with them on their trip south. Man's stuff is stolen by a thief when they reach the coast -- finding it no better than elsewhere. Man confronts the thief (he with a gun and thief with a knife), struggles with his humanity, and Boy finally gets him to not take the thief's clothing; the Man leaves the thief his clothes and a can of food. Man is getting sicker, and dies, telling his son to remember everything he's taught him, and continue going south, hoping to find warmer weather . is no different, no better than the place they left behind. Another man, with a wife and children in tow, come along, assure Boy he's a good guy, but he has to trust him on that, and they take him with them on their journey south. Moving film reel
