Ending
John and Aileen are desperate to find a cure for a rare genetic disorder that's affecting their two children, Patrick and Megan (third child John Jr. is fine). [The disease is Pompe Disease, causing enlarged organs and kids tend to die by age 9; Megan is turning 8.] Still no cure, but Dr. Robert at University of Nebraska is making good progress; John has tried to talk to Dr. Robert, but never gotten any call backs. Megan is getting worse, and John up and leaves to corner Dr. Robert, who needs money to continue his research. John promises funding from a research foundation... which doesn't exist. John raises some of the money, and the two go into business, with John doing fund-raising and Robert research. The company is funded by an investor, then sold off to a larger company (with experience in FDA trials and approval), and the testing begins on the kids. John is fired from his Board position -- to avoid conflict of interest as being the kids' father. The drugs works and the kids are getting better. A short time later, we see Megan can now sit upright in the car (a task she hasn't been able to do since a toddler), and another infant from the trials is going better also. Dr. Robert finally cashes the check he was given earlier (sort of the not spending it until it's earned), and he opens his own research company. Moving film reel
