Sam, son of Kevin (TRON, 1982) investigates his dad's disappearance, and finds himself via a passage in the family's videogame arcade (behind the TRON game), and as he pokes around dad's secret workshop, he steps onto the Grid, and is sucked into the same computer-esque world where his dad has been living for 20+ years. Sam meets girl Quorra, who takes him to his dad. Clu, whom Sam met a bit earlier, is a program that Kevin created but has since run a bit amok, trying to fix what it felt were flaws in the Grid. Sam tries to get Kevin to return to the regular world (the window is open only eight hours), but dad declines. Sam explores the Grid city, scuffles with nemesis type Zuse; Clu is building a virtual army by reprogramming programs to leave to the real world as a means of fixing the Grid. A few virtual battles 'n such, and Rinzler (reprogrammed by Clu) regains his memory to recall he's TRON, turning on Clu and his orders. Kevin, Sam and Quorra head toward the escape portal, Clu confronts Kevin, who apologizes for the programming error that confused Clu into trying to fix the Grid into a perfect entity. Kevin melts with Clu, destroying them both, allowing Quorra and Sam to escape to the real world as a huge explosion rocks the Grid. Back in the real world, Sam finds a microchip necklace, decides to take control of the family business and puts confidant Alan in as Chairman of the Board. Sam hops on his motorcycle to leave the arcade, finding Quorra outside; he takes her on a ride around the real world. |
