The Jacket 2005 102 R 3.0 out of 5 ducks
Ending
Iraq, 1991. Jack is shot in the head and gets amnesia; he's discharged from the military. He walks along and comes across Jackie and her drunk mom Jean, helps them get their truck working, and gives his dog tags to Jackie (age 7). Hitchhiking, he meets a guy who soon is pulled over, kills the cop and drops the gun next to Jack (who slipped and got knocked out). Jack is convicted and sent to a mental hospital, where he's stuck in a strait jacket and locked in a morgue locker. In there, he has flashbacks from the war, but another nut in the hospital tells him if he can ignore the past, he'll see the future. He does, and he begins to leap between 2007 and 1992 (where he dies on January 1, 1993). In 2007, Jack meets Jackie, they talk and realize who the other is, and Jack learns Jean died after smoking in bed. In 2007, he learns details that he can convince the doctors he's not a total nut (and have the hot lovin' with a grown up Jackie). Back to 1992, he's able to finally get a letter to Jean to tell her not to smoke in bed. On the way back from delivering the message, he slips and falls, hitting his head (the blunt trauma that his death certificate listed killing him). Dr. Lawrence (whom Jack helped in her side treatment of her friend's mute son) arranges to get him back into the jacket and locker, where we end up seeing Jack back in 2007, where Jackie again offers him a ride, but this time it's day time and not dark, she's only having lunch at the diner before going to her job at the hospital (she was a waitress the first time), and her mom calls and they talk like good friends (mom's not dead of the smoking-caused house fire). A very bright light floods through the back of her car (nicer now), and that's it. Moving film reel
