Planes 2013 91 PG 2.5 out of 5 ducks
Dusty Crophopper is a small farm cropdusting plane who dreams of being a world famous race plane. Dusty convinces local WWII vet plane Skipper to coach him, and with his help, gets #6 in a timed qualifying event for the Wings Across the World race. Sadly, only the top five got in... until another plane was disqualified due to using performance-enhancing jet fuel. We're literally off to the races, with pal El Chupacabra falling for French -Canadian plane Rochelle. After the first leg, Dusty is dead last (as he won't fly high due to his fear of heights). On the second day, Dusty deliberately falls last to help British plane Bulldog, earning him some fan power, but no better in the race. Ripslinger doesn't want to see Dusty win; Rip is used to being the top plane, and works with his minion forklifts to sabotage Dusty. By the time they are to cross India and the Himalayas, Ishani suggests Dusty follow the railroad tracks -- but there's a tunnel. After panicking at flying high over it, he flies diagonally through the tunnel, putting him way ahead into first place. When the others arrive, Dusty notices Ishani has one of Rip's custom propellers, and he realizes she tried to sabotage him. On the next leg, Dusty becomes disoriented -- his antenna was cut off. He ends up horribly off-course and is help by the military in landing on an aircraft carrier. They patch him up, and there he learns Skipper flew only one mission; his role-model isn't who he claims. After take off the next day, Dusty encounters bad weather and crashes into the ocean; he's rescued, taken to shore in Mexico, and patched up with donated parts (including Ishani's ill-gotten propeller and Bulldog's support for helping him earlier, as well as El C. and Rochelle's help for getting the couple together). Dusty is allowed to remain in the race with the confirmed sabotage, and on the final day, manages to win the race after Rip is distracted by showing off, thinking he's well ahead of everyone else -- and after Dusty gets over his fear of heights.
