John Q 2002 116 R 2.5 out of 5 ducks
John Quincy Archibald's son Michael collapses while playing baseball as a result of a heart failure. Like a good daddy, John Q. rushes Michael to the hospital's emergency, only to hear about the heart problem, and the solution being a transplant. Bad news, John, insurance won't pay for it. Desperate times calls for desperate measures, so John takes the hospital's emergency room hostage. The media get involved, he sorts of bonds with some of the hostages, and overall, sympathy is running high. One doctor/hostage is able to do the transplant if a heart becomes available, but none are. As the cops are getting ready to move in, John is ready to put a gun in his mouth and commit suicide so his son can have his heart. But just in the nick of time, a heart becomes available (a woman is killed in a car crash), and his son gets it. John is busted by the cops, he's sentenced to 3-5 years for false imprisonment (is cleared of the other charges), and his lawyer tells him he'll try to get it reduced to two years. John says bye-bye to his son, and drives off to prison. (And try to overlook that both John's heart, and that of the car crash victim, are adult hearts going into a child... maybe that's okay, but what do I know?) Moving film reel
