3-Iron (aka Bin-jip) 2004 88 R 3.5 out of 5 ducks
A film of a different ilk. A young man visits your empty house while you're away for a few days, leaves no trace of visiting, except he may repair a thing or two that's broken (scales, clocks, radios, etc.) In one home, he finds a beautiful young woman, abused by her husband. After fixing their scale, and the husband Lee coming home and catching him there, our vagabond hits three golf balls at Lee with a 3-Iron (punishing him for hitting his wife), and leaves; outside, the wife joins the man. As they wait for their test of home occupancy to pass, the guy hits a golf ball tied to a cord around trees, but it finally flies off and hits a woman passenger in a car; that's the end of him hitting balls around trees. This continues for a chunk of the film, until he's finally caught and arrested after a couple come to check on their father. (Our traveling couple broke into his home and found the old man dead; the drifter wraps him carefully and buries him in a nearby yard, complete with a simple casket.) The police beat and jail the young man, and send the woman back to Lee. A bribe allows Lee to hit four golf balls at the young man, still cuffed. The man is jailed, messes with the guard, to the point where we're not clear if the man is real or a ghost, the way he moves around the cell, and eventually, into the homes he's previous occupied. (They all feel a presence, but never see him.) Back at the home of Lee and the wife, the guy shows up, unseen by Lee, but the wife sees him, says she loves him (Lee figures his wife is talking to him), and they sit down to breakfast (again, the guy is unseen). After Lee goes to work, the two embrace and stand on the scale, which shows a weight of 0 kilos, and there's a caption asks how we differentiate dreams from reality in the world. Moving film reel
